Abstract
Market organic waste has significant potential to be utilized as a substrate for rearing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, supporting sustainable waste management. Differences in the nutritional content of organic waste are expected to affect larval growth and waste utilization efficiency. This study aims to (1) analyze the nutritional content of organic waste, (2) compare the effect of feed type on the growth of BSF maggots, (3) determine the feed type that has the most significant impact on BSF maggot growth, and (4) evaluate growth efficiency, feed efficiency, and organic waste reduction by BSF maggots. The study used an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consisting of three treatments: rice waste (P1), fruit waste (P2), and vegetable waste (P3), with three replications over 18 days. The observed parameters included feed mass, initial and final larval mass, larval body length and width, nutritional content of feed and larvae, larval growth efficiency, feed efficiency, and organic waste reduction. The results showed that rice waste had the highest crude protein content, at 5.3419%, and produced the best larval growth. ANOVA results showed that feed type had a highly significant effect (p<0.05) on final larval mass, body length, and body width. The rice waste treatment (P1) resulted in the highest growth efficiency of 529.83% and feed efficiency of 14.16%, while the vegetable waste treatment (P3) achieved the highest organic waste reduction of 89.40%. Therefore, the type of organic waste used as feed affects BSF larval growth, feed utilization efficiency, and waste reduction capacity, with rice waste being the most optimal feed for enhancing larval growth.
